Saturday, June 15, 2013. Please mark this day for the 7th annual Oak Ridges Trail Association Moraine for Life Adventure Relay. With many teams already confirmed in their participation this may well be the largest turn-out so far for this event. These teams, which can be comprised of up to 15 members, will race along the 160km course. The course is divided into 14 relay stages of varying distances consisting of water, road and trail portions. With the exception of the 2-person canoe stage, one team member will complete each stage. (However, an individual may do multiple stages.) Only approved means of ‘human-powered’ transportation will be used to complete the entire course in a single 24-hour period.
The canoe stage starts from the grounds of the family home of Bill and Maria MacDonald in Gores Landing and ends at the waterfront park in Bewdley. After this stage the racers follow the Oak Ridges Moraine trail, which stretches from Bewdley through to the end point in King City.
The Adventure Relay is organized and staffed by hundreds of Oak Ridges Trail Association (ORTA) volunteers. Work is already underway on the planning of this event which is one of the largest events of its kind in Ontario.
ORTA is a volunteer organization committed to trail development across the Oak Ridges Moraine. ORTA’s work fosters appreciation and respect for the Moraine’s ecological importance and encourages use and enjoyment by the public.
The Adventure Relay appeals to corporate teams, community groups, clubs, associations, runners, families, outdoor and adventure enthusiasts.
