The Bay Marine Winterfest Oval Ice Races at Brighton Speedway were a huge success this past Saturday.
With over 100 competitors in 14 divisions, the action on the 1/3rd mile fully iced oval was exciting. Participants of all ages joined in the fun as snowmobiles, 4-wheelers, side-by-sides, ice bikes and endurance cars all took to the slippery surface.
Extreme cold temperatures the week leading up to the event help Speedway staff and volunteers build more than a foot of ice on the normally clay oval.
Exciting racing took place in every class with a record number of competitors in all classes.
This year marked the first ever appearance by the Vintage Snowmobile club. The purpose-built single cylinder racing sleds were a real crowd pleaser.
“It was a great day of ice racing, the track held up great, the competitors had fun and the fans got the fast paced action they came for,” said promoter Mark Rinaldi.
Round two of the Bay Marine Oval Ice Races at Brighton Speedway is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 16 at 11 a.m. The same program will apply.
Registration Forms can be downloaded from www.brightonspeedway.com or completed at the track at 775 County Road 64 just east of Brighton.
