COBOURG — On Remembrance Day, the thoughts of Cobourg resident Doreen Jenkin always turn to an uncle who was lost too soon and too young.

Jenkin displayed a small photo of the young man in uniform whose name was Jack Waghorn. Jack was the son of Mary Waghorn of Cobourg. He was born and educated in Cobourg, eventually enlisting in the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment. He went overseas in 1942.

The family received the sad news the following year that Private Waghorn had been killed in action in Ortona, Italy, Dec. 15, 1943. He was only 24 years of age.

A bigger version of the small photo she displayed hangs on the wall of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 133 in Cobourg.
