Hamilton township resident killed in County Rd. 28 crash

UPDATE: The OPP has identified Kelly Shawn Bebee, 52, of Hamilton Township, as the victim in the fatal crash.

One person is dead after a collision on County Road 28 south of Bailieboro in blustery conditions on Thursday night.

The two-vehicle collision happened just before 7 p.m. north of Hannah Road.

A car was travelling north on County Road 28 when it struck a deer, Peterborough County OPP said. The car then crossed over into the southbound lanes and was struck by a southbound pickup truck. The lone occupant of the car died at the scene as a result of the collision.

The driver of the pickup truck was uninjured, police said.

County Road 28 between Bailieboro and Bewdley was closed for hours for the investigation by OPP technical traffic collision investigators.

The road reopened just before 12:30 a.m. Friday, OPP said.

No further details about the collision were immediately available.

Peterborough received its first blast of winter just before 7 p.m. Thursday, with flurries, ice pellets, wind gusts to 63 km/h and even some thunder.

About 1.3 millimetres of precipitation was recorded in Peterborough on Thursday, according to Environment Canada.

A winter weather travel advisory for Peterborough and the Kawarthas warning that snowfall and rapidly falling temperatures could impact road conditions that had been issued on Wednesday was lifted just before 11 p.m. Thursday.

Emergency responders dealt with several other collisions in the city and county on Thursday night.

A low of -14 C, feeling more like -25 C with the wind chill, was forecast in Peterborough for early Friday morning, Environment Canada forecasts.

The high on Friday is expected to be just - 6 C and on Remembrance Day on Saturday it's forecast to be -2 C.

More flurries and showers are possible on Sunday in Peterborough and the Kawarthas, Environment Canada forecasts.
