COBOURG -- There is a growing gap in needed business and industrial skills as people retire from their jobs, says Watton Employment Services advisory Beck Huth.
To help bridge that gap, Watton is holding its first Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship Expo in Cobourg this Wednesday afternoon.
"We are hearing clients say they are interested in skills training - but them don't know what's out there," Huth said in an interview Monday.
The Expo is a way to let individuals know about opportunities including those outside well-known trades like plumbers and electricians, she said.
The Expo will provide a wide range of information from various sources about a long-list of skilled jobs from HVAC, masonry, mechanical and cabinet making to horticultural technicians and bakers, Huth said to name a few.
There will also be information about service industry jobs and child and youth workers, she continued.
And the Ontario Power Corporation will be there took talk about the varied employment opportunities with the large and ongoing refurbishment at Darlington, she said.
The Expos is part of National Skilled Trades and Technology Week.
There are job opportunities for skilled people which is an option to going to college or university, Huth said.
