Non-gala fundraiser a success for Cornerstone
COBOURG -- Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre extends thanks to the community for the amazing success of its seventh annual Nights Of Shelter Non-Gala Fundraiser.
"Thanks to the combined efforts of the campaign's presenting sponsor Part Time CFO Services and the generosity of the community, over $16,000 was raised to provide shelter to women and children who have been impacted by family violence," the press release said.
Cornerstone also thanks Chestnut Park real-estate broker Fiona Barrington for her innovative interpretation of the campaign tagline, What Will You Be Doing While You Donate. For Barrington, that proved to be hosting an afternoon cocktail party and encouraging her 30 guests to donate. It proved to be a fun event that raised more than $8,200 (or, in Cornerstone terms, about 67 nights of shelter).
"Supporting the crucial work that Cornerstone does in helping women in crisis transition to a safe and independent life is really important," Barrington was quoted in the announcement.
"Having the women in our community come out and support other women in such a way was truly amazing. I look forward to helping in any way I can in the future."
Last year, the 6,600 nights of shelter Cornerstone provided put it at 120% occupancy. Through this annual event, the agency can continue to offer women and children safety through a secure place to sleep and on-going support as they plan their next steps.
"Each year we strive to help as many women and children as possible and receiving support from the community enables us to continue providing immediate shelter within our county and to carry out our mission to break the cycle of family violence," executive director Nancy Johnston said.
