COBOURG — The Thunder Wolves Wrestling Club is preparing for another successful season.

The club will begin its second year training young wrestlers between the ages of 8 to 18 on Oct. 17, with Tuesday- and Thursday-evening sessions at St. Mary Secondary School.

The club began with President Kyle Henderson and Head Coach Tyler Cochrane. They are proud this year to announce the addition of Ryan Lue to the coaching team.

Lue brings 15 years’ experience to the club. His wrestling resume includes multiple national championships and success on the international stage, as well as his time as a member of the Canadian National Wrestling Team. He has participated in the Pan American Games, and was part of the Canadian Olympic team in 2012.

With a new coach, and more practice sessions, the young wrestlers are sure to build their skills and succeed in the upcoming tournaments.

Last year the club witnessed many young wrestlers grow and develop as athletes. Juvenile wrestlers Kelsey Benns, Kieva Earle and Keagan Read persevered to reach new heights, and represent their high schools at OFSAA. Kieva also represented Thunder Wolves at nationals and finished with a silver medal in Greco-Roman style. With a taste of success there will be no stopping the Thunder Wolves wrestlers!

When asked about her feelings about the upcoming season, Kieva stated, “I am so excited to continue learning new things and help to encourage our new wrestlers.

“I believe that with the coaches we have behind us, our team will be successful. I look forward to working with our new coach, Ryan Lue, who will bring his Olympic experience to the mats.”

Registration has begun for the 2017-2018 wrestling season. Youth practices (ages 8-13) will be held on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 7:15 p.m. High-school=age practices (ages 13-18) will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m.
