Busy October at the Cobourg Public Library

TAMMY ROBINSON/COBOURG PUBLIC LIBRARY

The much anticipated Cobourg Public Library Annual Book Sale is coming soon! On Oct. 14 the Cobourg Library will be the best place in town to buy your books, music and movies. The great thing about this book sale is that YOU set the prices. Simply make a donation to the library for the items you would like to take home - you pay what you want. This event is an important fundraiser for the Library. All donations go directly back to the library to be used to purchase library materials and provide programming that could not be funded through other sources.

New this year is our Silent Auction. The library will have tables set up in our Reading Room with an amazing array of items and services from businesses and individuals from across Cobourg and Hamilton Township. Beginning on the same day as our Book Sale, the auction will open on Oct.14 and bidding will close on Oct. 21. Bidding will be available all week during library hours, so make sure to come out and support the Library and bid on some fabulous donated items.

How many of you are Murdoch Mystery fans? I'm a HUGE fan of the show, and after a heart-pounding season finale, the Season Premiere on September 25th certainly proved why Murdoch Mysteries is the #1 TV drama in Canada. But how many of you know that Murdoch Mysteries is based on a series of novels by noted Canadian author Maureen Jennings? Did you also know that a new Murdoch novel is being released in November 2017 - the first Murdoch novel in 10 years! Want to know more about the new novel and Jennings journey to success? Then register for your seat today to experience this rare opportunity to meet Maureen Jennings at the Library on Saturday October 21st.

The Library also celebrates Ontario Public Library Week this month from October 14th to Oct. 21. All week long we will have our popular Food for Fines program, the Silent Auction and events every day. We kick off the celebration with the book sale, followed by a visit on Sunday from the Cobourg Police who will be setting up their kids Safety Village in the parking lot. On Tuesday the Library visits Hamilton Township at the Cold Springs Hall for Local Government Day. On Wednesday come by and see which "new" face will be working at our check-out desk on Celebrity Check-Out Day. Thursday is the official launch of the Share Your Stories Contest with author Joel Sutherland visiting us to talk about his popular Haunted Canada stories. If you come by the Library on Friday we will have a special treat for those who come in and "pop" open a good book. The week will end with a visit from crime writing novelist Maureen Jennings. It's like having a party everyday at the library!

Book clubs are super cool again, and we have two new popular adult book clubs happening this month. On Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. we have our Cobourg Cookbook Club at the Library. This month we focus on muffins and discuss great recipes and cookbooks from the library collection - make sure to bring in samples of what you baked. The Library will also be heading to the Rustic Bean on Oct. 30 at 5 p.m. to enjoy some refreshments and chat about various books written by author Mary Higgins Clark. If you are looking for a book club for the very busy family, come to the library anytime in October to pick up a book on Spooky Tales and meet up on October 25th at 6:30 p.m. in the Youth Services area to talk and explore what about you read.

We also have some great programs this month at our Bewdley and Gores Landing branches. We have story times, a yarn circle, puking pumpkins, solar robotics and a Halloween Funday! Check out our program guide for more information.

October at the Cobourg Public Library is certainly looking like the place to be this month. We hope to see you here and enjoy what your Library has to offer!
