PORT HOPE -- Port Hope council included two Highway of Heroes items to share with members of the public.

First, Mayor Bob Sanderson urged everyone to take advantage of the Port Hope stop for the Invictus Games 2017 Flag Relay along the Highway of Heroes Sept. 18 and come show their support.

A convoy of motorcycles (estimated at 16) will travel the Highway as far as County Road 28, where they will exit and travel to the Port Hope Legion at 29 Thomas St. -- which will also serve the Port Hope Legion as a great way to kick off Legion Week, Sanderson noted.

Invictus Games organizer will set up their road show in the parking lot after their 2:45 p.m. arrival, and ceremonies that start at 3 p.m. will feature speaker and the passing of the flag to the Legion's Silver Cross Mother for 2017.

Councillor Terry Hickey had his own report on the Aug. 24 Highway of Heroes Living Memorial golf-tournament fundraiser.

Hickey attended on behalf of the municipality and, when it was over, they had raised $40,000.

"For a first effort, it was a great job," the councillor said.
