Layton Dodge dies
Layton Dodge, one of Cobourg's best known sports figures, died Sunday at Northumberland Hills Hospital.
Dodge joined the staff of the Cobourg Sentinal-Star in the mid-1950s, and soon became a beloved sight at ball diamonds and hockey arenas. He retired from his post as Sports Editor of The Cobourg Daily Star for health reasons in the late 1990s.
A quiet man, Dodge was a passionate supporter of local sports and athletes, as well as the town itself. Cobourg's Civic Awards includes the Layton Dodge Athletic Award. He was also a significant contributor to the Cobourg Community Centre, whose press box is named for him.
