A Scriven Boulevard man got an unexpected surprise in his backyard on Wednesday evening.

Around 10 p.m. he heard a loud bang that sounded like the back of a dumptruck closing. When he went out to investigate, he couldn’t find anything on the street, but when he went around to his backyard he found a vehicle.

The vehicle had turned sharply on the street, went up his front lawn, careened off a row of hedges, proceeded through a narrow opening, tore off his gas meter to his house, and ran over two tree stumps before stopping in his backyard.

The Port Hope woman driving it wasn’t hurt and police are still investigating. No alcohol was involved.
